Types of CBD Extracts

Full Spectrum

Most people may be familiar with full-spectrum extracts as it continues to be the most popular form of CBD. Why is that? Let’s find out!

Full spectrum extracts are the least processed out of the three extraction techniques. Minimal processing retains all the benefits of the plant including minor cannabinoids, chlorophyll, and terpenes. Working in synergy, all of these beneficial components create the Entourage Effect which further enhance the benefits of each component.

This is where PharmaCentrix’s unique formulation and lab processing methods render a market scion – a full-spectrum highly efficacious product with maximum benefits for patients and resellers.

Broad Spectrum

Did you know that CBD is only one of 80-100 cannabinoids that are found in hemp.

There are a lot of different definitions when it comes to the types of cannabinoid extracts available which can be confusing. Let’s discuss the three main types: full spectrum, broad spectrum, and isolate.

Broad spectrum CBD refers to a full spectrum extract that is further processed to remove even more cannabinoids and THC.

Although broad spectrum extracts retain most of the other minor cannabinoids even after further processing. It is a great alternative for day use as the somnolent properties of THC have been removed. However, it is not entirely THC-free like a CBD isolate product.

What About Isolates?

Advancements in processing methodology and technology have made extracting and isolating individual cannabinoids possible.

Although not as popular as Full and Broad spectrum, CBD Isolate offers the benefit of being THC-free. CBD molecules are isolated into a >99% CBD crystalline powder, a pure compound.  As a results, this can be a better alternative for those who do not want to risk a positive drug test.  However, just like broad spectrum, you lose the majority of the benefits of the Entourage Effect.

What Are Terpenes?

Present in all plants, terpenes are the compounds responsible for smell and flavor. Essential oils for example derive their scent and flavor from the plants from they’re extracted from.  Each terpene also has its own medicinal properties.

Terpenes are the aromatic compounds found in fruits, flowers, and all herbs including hemp. You may already be familiar with oranges thanks to their fresh citrusy scent while cooking spaghetti sauce or working with fruit.  Those are terpenes.

Terpenes are a common element of many of our CBD products which means they contribute to the distinct aroma & characterizing scent profile.)

The importance of keeping your CBD products sealed and covered when not in use cannot be overstated. Hemp compounds are sensitive to light and pollutants, so they should remain protected at all times.

Minor Cannabinoids

The term minor cannabinoids refers to other compounds of the same family that are present in smaller amounts.  CBG, for example, known as a powerful anti-inflammatory agent, is naturally found in small amounts in hemp along with CBC, CBN.

They act in conjunction and cause the Entourage Effect.  It is estimated that the hemp plant contains over 100 different cannabinoids, each with a different function.

New cannabinoids are identified every day with more and more research being performed to identify their benefit.

Entourage Effect

What’s the Entourage Effect?

Cannabis contains more than about 400 different compounds/ cannabinoids. When you combine different cannabis compounds, this chemical complexity can lead to the Entourage Effect.

For some patients when they introduce different CBD products into their system, they experience a synergistic effect that is greater than the sum of the two or more separate CBD components they’ve taken.

This term was coined by Mechoulam and Shimon Ben-Shabat in a cannabinoid study from 1999. In the study they suggest that this phenomenon explains why botanical drugs (containing the entire spectrum of compounds within a plant) can sometimes be more effective than the plant’s isolated components.

Cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids are all part of the spectrum of naturally occurring compounds that interact with our ECS neurotransmitters, enhancing (and awakening) the effectiveness of these pathways.
